When Burke & Wills was invited to take part in the BBC’s DIY SOS, we were thrilled to lend our expertise to such an inspiring project. Our crew is used to handling complex, high-value relocations – but this opportunity was about something even more meaningful: helping a South London family rebuild their home and their future. This article shares a behind-the-scenes look at our day on set, the logistics involved, and why community projects like DIY SOS mean so much to our team.

Our Day on the DIY SOS Set
The Burke & Wills team arrived early, vans freshly cleaned and loaded with equipment, ready to join volunteers from London and beyond. Working alongside Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS production crew, our role was to assist with the logistics – ensuring every item, from furniture to sentimental pieces, was safely packed, lifted, and redelivered in time for the home’s grand reveal. The days were full of teamwork, laughter, and a few emotional moments! Seeing tradespeople, suppliers, and volunteers come together to make a tangible difference reminded us why we love what we do.
The Team’s Experience Behind the Scenes
From the moment the cameras rolled, our crew got stuck in with enthusiasm. “It was an amazing experience,” said Adam, one of our senior movers. Tom added “You could feel the energy – everyone wanted to help. It’s not every day you get to see how your work impacts people’s lives so directly.”
In true Aussie style, the sunshine pulled through and spirits stayed high. The production team kept everyone fuelled with coffee and snacks, and by the end of the project, the house was completely transformed.
Logistics and Professional Expertise in Action
A project like DIY SOS requires precision, coordination, and care – qualities that sit at the core of every Burke & Wills relocation.
Our team handled delicate furniture, art, and equipment in tight timeframes, all while working around builders, decorators, and cameras. It was a real-world test of our logistical experience – proof that attention to detail and teamwork are what make complex projects run smoothly.
Giving Back Through Our Work
Although we’re best known for long-distance, local relocations and storage, community support is at the heart of our business. Participating in DIY SOS gave us a chance to use our expertise for something that directly improves lives. For our team, it wasn’t just a day of work – it was a day to give back.
Final Reflections
Being part of BBC’s DIY SOS was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. We’re proud to have played our part and to represent South London’s strong sense of community spirit. Stay tuned to watch the full transformation when our episode airs on Friday 24th October. From all of us at Burke & Wills, a big thank you to the DIY SOS team for letting us be part of such an inspiring project.
