Dates to Avoid Moving in London

by | Feb 28, 2020 | Moving

Thursday, Friday and Saturday are the most popular days of the week to move house with London movers, and Summer is the favourite season with most London house moves taking place during the school holidays in July and August.

Generally these are great times to move – you can get the time off work to settle in and you can mostly avoid London’s rush hour traffic.

However, if you are moving in London there are a number of weekends and dates over the school holidays during special events when temporary road closures, one-way systems and parking restrictions can cause major headaches that make moving house more stressful than it already is.

Here are some of the special events and dates over the coming months  you may want to avoid when moving in London ….

The Boat Race – Saturday 29 March

The Oxford and Cambridge boat race on the River The Thames boat race pulls in huge crowds which impacts on traffic and parking in Hammersmith and Putney.

London Marathon – Saturday 25th & Sunday 26 April

Roads and public transport services in close proximity to the 26.2 mile course will be inaccessible during the race, with some areas around the finish line at St James’s Park closed off for the entire weekend.

Trooping the Colour – 13 June

The annual Trooping of the Colour sees road closures around Whitehall, Horse Guards Road and around St James’s Park.

Prudential RideLondon – Saturday 15th to Sunday 16th August

The annual festival of cycling affects all roads south of A4. Roads will be closed in London and Surrey on Sunday 16 August. For further travel information and advice, please visit tfl.gov.uk/ridelondon.
